Reader comment on item: Columbia University vs. America

Submitted by Michael E. Sullivan (United States), Apr 2, 2003 at 03:33

Dear Mr. Pipes:

What follows is a copy of my April 1, 2003 e-mail to Mr. Lee Bollinger of Columbia University. If my passionate comments do not pass your "substance and tone" criteria, so be it. If you choose to post this message, please note that the postscript reflects a reading this evening of the comments posted by your readers.

" i understand that you are the president of columbia university. it must make you so proud to have a faculty that includes such feces as foner and de genova. what prestige they must bring to your sorry college and the useful idiots who administer it. i can just hear the talk in the history and anthropology departments, and around your campus: ' we have some of the most anti-american professors in the country on our oh-so-prestigious faculty and we allow them a daily opportunity to poison the minds, hearts and spirit of our students. aren't we a great university! let's see how many more of these red-diaper babies we can add to our campus. let's see how many more of their comrades there are to whom we extend tenure so they can perpetuate their ignorance and hate. and, oh, by the way, if anyone is upset by our actions, let's just tell them it is a matter of academic freedom and, poor us, we can't do anything about it.' lee, here is my advice. the next time you see little eric and nicky at one of your faculty teas, you tell them for me that indeed a revolution is coming but that it will not be the one they envision and it will not be one they will survive. "

P.S. To the concerned alumni of Columbia University. It is not enough to simply bemoan the cancer that exists in your alma mater. That is the fondest hope of the Foner/De Genova/Said crowd, their friends among the radical left, the islamofascists, the anarchists and, let's not forget, their campus enablers such as Mr. Bollinger. They will simply try to finesse their way through the current tempest with protestations of academic freedom, free speech and other inversions and then, relying upon the inertia of good men and women, they will resume their tactical assaults on america.

My question to the Columbia alumni is this. What are you going to DO about it? My prediction is that you will do nothing and, two years from now, the rot will have further degraded your university.
