How can we remedy the situation?

Reader comment on item: Columbia University vs. America

I think we should all be thankful that we live in a society with freedom of speech. Still, we can work within the system to oppose the nominally ‘liberal', but really anti-American, agenda. The first step is identifying and publicizing the problem. Like most on this site, I thank and praise Daniel Pipes for his invaluable work. The next step is for those who learn about the problem on these campuses to take action. Those of us lucky enough to be philanthropists, or even donors, should think twice before deciding to make donations. Consider directing charity toward institutions that don't foster extreme hate, or that at least have administrations and faculties that are concerned about the problem. If the endowment is affected, the administration cares. Universities also care about getting applications for admission. Parents want there children to be in an academic and safe environment, not a radical, hateful environment. If applications go down, Columbia will care.

I took undergrad courses at Columbia a dozen years ago. I would have been disturbed if I knew a sizable clique of professors at the university had an agenda of undermining the USA by indoctrinating students with venomous, scathing attacks against the USA, Israel, U.S. military, IMF, capitalism, McDonalds, Starbucks, etc. They may have every right to spew their hate, but we should act responsibly and exercise our right to direct our children, tuition and donations elsewhere.
