Reader comment on item: Columbia University vs. America

Submitted by Douglas Merz (United States), Apr 2, 2003 at 12:39

Columbia's President Lee Bollinger attempt to distance the University from Assistant Prof. De Genova's inflammatory remarks doesn't hold water. It doesn't even pass the smell test. The event in question at which De Genova (and others) practiced their academic freedom was at a University sponsored event (anti-war teach-in), conducted in a University facility (Low Library - the most distinctive building on campus and the building which contains the offices of the President of the University), and was taught ("teach-in", remember?) by around thirty members of the faculties of Columbia University, including Dr. De Genova.
