Hamas's victory will pave the way for Israel's victory

Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Apr 5, 2006 at 07:52

Hamas is now in charge of the Palestinian Authority: that means that Palestinian Arabs have chosen to say "no" to further negotiations with Israel. This is both a danger and an opportunity for Israel.

It is a danger, because Hamas is violent; but it is also an opportunity to find a new bi-partisan national unity against the enemy. If Israel starts seeing the Palestinian Arabs as enemies, then it will win. After Hamas's victory, even the pro-Palestinian European Union has decided to withdraw its financial support for the Palestinian Authority. The 500 million Euros per year that the European Union gave to the Palestinian Authrority were never spent to improve the lives of Palestinian Arabs. They were used to feed corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.

Therefore, it is good that the European Union will now be forced to withdraw its financial support for the Palestinian Authority. Palestinian Arabs will now be ruled by Hamas. And Hamas will now have to provide education, health and security for Palestinian Arabs.

From the Israeli view-point, Hamas's victory is both a danger and a blessing. If the Israelis realize that enemies are enemies, then they will prevail over Hamas and the Palestinian Arabs. If the Israelis give in to international pressure, then they will lose the war. There is no other way but to face the enemy and fight.
