The will to be free

Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win

Submitted by Bader S (United Arab Emirates), Apr 4, 2006 at 18:07

What Israel is fighting is a Palestinian will to be free. The Palestinians have known only occupation and repression in recent history. Turks, British, Egyptians, Jordanians, and Israeli Zionists have each had their role in that history.

It is surprising to hear an American advocating the defeat of this will to be free, especially after the propaganda that gushes out of the US about the innate desire of humans to live free. Palestinians are humans too and they want to be free, and it should be clear to anyone with any sense that after 50 years of an unequal war between the Palestinians and Israelis the Palestinian's will to be free cannot be broken.

The Zionist ideology was and continues to be based on the negation of the Palestinian people. Once Zionism, the ideology and the reality, is defeated psychology (since there is no hope of AK-47- bearing Palestinians ever defeating militarily F-16 flying Israelis) the Palestinians will be free. Free to return to their appropriated villages, free to replant their uprooted olive orchards, free to travel, free to worship in the Aqsa Mosque, free to enjoy lives without the threat of colonial Zionism dominating those lives.

One last note regarding Jerusalem -- the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital will only solidify the resolve of the Palestinians to continue their struggle. ...
