In Islam, Mohammed is just a man like us- not God. The difference is that he received orders from God to convey Koran- so called prophet. Moslems have to follow Koran (from God) and Mohammed's guides relate to Koran itself. Mohammed was a product of his own history and environment, many conflicts and wars (you should learn more the history and its background). Not all of his words, activities and way of life have to be followed by Moslem if they do not relate to Koran as the main source. Many of his activities have been inapplicable nowadays because they were simply his daily private activities and or situational ones- not to follow; but, Koran and "hadist" (his activities and sayings to support Koran) go on. AND KORAN ALONE CLEARLY TEACHES TOLERANCE AND COEXISTANCE TOWARDS OTHER RELIGIONS.
