A Movement of Apostasy is Better Than Depending on Moderate Muslims

Reader comment on item: Americans Wake Up to Islamism

Moderate Muslims are the answer? I'd like to agree w/ Dr. Pipes on this one, but I can't. It seems to me that there is no such thing as moderate Islam - that is the ideology stemming from an honest read of authoritative sources. I'm not claiming that Muslims can't practice a peaceful religion. I am saying that they wouldn't be patterning their beliefs and practices after Muhammad. In other words, the problem of terrorists and Islamists will always persist so long as Imams are willing to teach according to the traditional understanding of Islam. From my vantage point, the real answer is for a whole lot of us to work for the release (freedom from, apostasy) of Muslims from an evil religion rather than hope for a movement among Muslims to the literal and historically accurate translation of the their primary sources.
