On moderate Islam

Reader comment on item: On Islam and Islamism
in response to reader comment: benefit vs. detriment

Submitted by Seamus Dafydd Dives MacNemi (United States), Oct 4, 2009 at 01:02

As I see the problem, it is not Islam. It is the primitive tribalist mentality of the believers that is the issue. The majority of the believing Muslim population is still locked into a seventeenth century mind set and it's going to take some time to bring them up to speed with the twenty first century. It is in our own best interests not to alienate or to isolate them but to educate them carefully and allow them to grow into an adult state of being in the present. They are still very much like frightened children trying to hold on to a security blanket or teddy bear.
