On the contrary Oliver - those who give the Koran a violent interpretation or the ones that are nitpicking.
Just because God commanded Moses to slaughter 3,000 idol worshippers - which he then performed efficiently - does not mean Judaism (or Christianity that adopts Exodus in its scripture) commands that Jews slaughter polytheists or idol worshippers in the 21st century.

As the mass majority of Muslims see it (the radical Islamists being the exception), much of the verses in the Koran that deal with war were God's commands to Muhammed during war torn Arabia - similar to God's violent commands to Moses in Exodus. They are not general commands for all who follow in times of peace to follow - and any analogies to those incidents must be applied in the proper context.

The Islamists however - take the same tact as people like Wilders, Spencer etc. - and ignore the context - ignore the time - and generalized those statements in the Koran, as direclty applicable to the present day. It is they who nitpick and misconstrue the intent of the Koran - to serve as an example in context - and not a blueprint to follow out of context. These principles have been well established in 1300 years of Islamic jurisprudence and it is the Islamists that are being untrue to history and to Islam.
