Is islam becoming tolerant?

Reader comment on item: [Moderate] Voices of Islam

It is encouraging that more and more muslims are looking at their religion critically and going public with their views without getting killed. Anwer Shaikh, Ibn Warraq, and now Irshad Manji along with few other muslims have written books critical of Islam after Rushdie affair and are surviving without million dollars on their heads. Is islam becoming tolerant?
