Dear Mr Pipes,
I think you are incorrect to assert that promoting moderate Islam will somehow solve the militant tendancy that Islam has.
You do not need a lot of people to cause havoc such as the destruction of the Twin Towers and attack on the Pentagon. May I remind you that there were only 19 hijakers.
The USA has been trying this tactic in Iran for 25years to no avail.
Perhaps you can explain but there is a suspision about Islam that it really is a 'religion' of violence and not one of Peace. Whatever is in the written text of the Koran - and I have never read it, there appears to be a teaching that requires believers to kill all the Jews and Infadels (Christians).
I would suggest that the real challenge is to persaude the Islamic religious leaders to preach peace - not death.
The Crusaders killed everyone that didn't bow down to the cross until they liberated Jerusalem. It would appear that we are in the throes of a Crusade in reverse where the militant Muslims are killing everyone that doesn't convert to Islam with the 'liberation' of Jerusalem their goal.
