Supporting Freedom of Religion...Reader comment on item: [Moderate] Voices of Islam Submitted by Matthew J. Fleming (United States), Sep 24, 2003 at 10:45 Religious freedom was and is one of the primary reasons that people came and are coming to the United States. This freedom is precious and must never be compromised. Since I love the United States and my fellow citizens (of this country and the World), I am sometimes quite critical of my country and its imperfect culture. This criticism, I repeat, comes from love and not hate.It does not matter what my personal feelings about Islam are. What does matter is that I support the unalienable right of American Muslims to continue practicing their faith in security and tolerance. As well I applaud the self-criticism of such Muslims as Irshad Manji, Ibn Warraq, Ali Sina (www.faithfreedom.org) and others. Perhaps like me they criticize their fellow Muslims out of love and not hatred(self or otherwise). Sincerely yours, Matthew J. Fleming
