Sadaam's horrors are not the focus of this war

Reader comment on item: Why the Left Loves Osama [and Saddam]

While I agree with you, your article effectively ignored the reasons that Bush has given to justify the invasion of Iraq. Nobody has denied that Sadaam Hussein is a horrible person - indeed, his horrors and the horrors of regimes throughout Africa and South America justify forced removal. We'll be hearing stories soon about the tortures, rape rooms and wanton destruction he's brought down upon his own people. However, we're going to war to rid him of weapons of mass destruction that nobody has been able to prove exist - Colin Powell had to use artist renditions (read: drawings) of what he though might be chemical plants inside of trucks. The nuclear documents used to support his claims were shown to be forgeries. Any self-respecting Republican (and I consider myself one) must admit that the evidence is shaky at best and non-existent at worst. If his oppression of his people were the problem, there would be no debate. However, we're attacking him for a crime that we have no evidence he's committed, and THAT is a problem.
