The left is all about rebellion against existing mores; against "authority". It's all about feeling "me".

Because America's way is so successful - that it's way almost has developed into a bible of what to do, an authority - the left, true to style feels a need to fight against it.

Totally irrational, but the left's underlying drive is not something rational.
It's all about "me", and that to be me I need to fight against current authority.
