Gullible left and opportunist Islamists

Reader comment on item: Why the Left Loves Osama [and Saddam]

Submitted by Sunil (United States), Apr 25, 2009 at 22:39

Dear Dr. Pipes: The Lefts and Islamists are strange bedfellow sbut neither loves the other. First, let me try to explain the attitude of the left. The liberals --in their most puritan forms-- are against the exploitation of powerless by powered. This, in itself, is a good thing but the left takes it to the extreme. Anytime there is someone poor, uneducated and suffering, the Left cries exploitation by rote! The Left completely ignores the fact that sometimes people can be responsible for their own plights. So the Left can have only one explanation for Palestinian misery -- Isreali/American aggression. In a few years when Pakistan fully becomes hostage to Islamist violence, the Left will have no other explanation except aggression by Hindu India.

And, why do Islamists love the Left? Dr Pipes, please think a little more clearly (:-)). Do Islamists really love the Left? When did you last hear about a communist party in Saudi Arabia? When did the communists win an election in Pakistan? Or had a significant political presence in Iran, Indinesia, Malaysia or any other Islamic republic? The last I checked Chechnia was not fighting for a socialist republic. For Islamists leftists are gullible vehicles to carry the Islamic agenda for as long as it serves their person.
