Reader comment on item: Finding Allah in Unlikely Places
in response to reader comment: Respect for other religions

Not quite. Christians believe in Jesus as God incarnate, Muslims take him for a prophet. There is a profound difference. I don't know what is meant by "believing in" Moses, but Jews do not worship Moses; they worship only God. Many other things that Muslims claim to accept in the Bible are not quite accepted.

For example, the important scene in which Abraham is asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac: in the Quran this son becomes Ishmael! Since the Jewish Bible was written and translated into many languages hundreds of years before Mohammed's birth , this represents an act of religious vandalism. So much for the respect Islam shows for other religions. The same vandalism can be seen in the overtaking of the temple of Ram in India and building a mosque around it, not to mention the Haram Al-Sharif built atop the Temple Mount and the wanton destruction of the Afghan Buddhas.

PS The Torah is only one small part of the Jewish scriptures: it is only the first five books of the Jewish (and Christian) Bible; the Prophets come next and after that, the Writings. A proper way to refer to this collective work would be to call it the Tanakh. The Christian Bible is the Jewish Bible with the book order altered and appended with the Gospels, Acts, the letters and Revelations. Forgive me if I haven't quite got everything exactly right.
