The problem is people like you Wilhelm. You cannot claim to be religious in any aspect if you are pondering such thoughts, you are a lost person and don't understand the essence of our existence. Firstly, it is disrespect to question God in such a way. Second, ill fate in one's life and tragedy are not sense of humour as you say, it is something for which we do not have an answer, and such things happen to make one realise that this life is actually superficial, for we are here for only the blink of an eye before our eternal life begins in the hereafter. I personally think tragedy is a way devised by God to help people pay for petty or big sins in their worldly lives, so as to not carry burden into the afterlife. Finally, you seem confused why Muslims fear God, well if you do not fear your creator then you don't have any respect for The Creator and cannot make any claims to be the follower of any religion. Period.
