Reader comment on item: "At War with Islamic Fascists"

Submitted by Allan E. Mallenbaum (United States), Aug 14, 2006 at 22:15

It's comforting to differenciate between Islam and the much narrower Islamic Fascism. Our problems, however, are NOT caused by an imaginary "Islamic Fascism;" world terrorism is a product of Islam, pure and simple.

Islamic Fascism is a misnomer; it cannot exist. Benito Mussolini defined Fascism in 1925 with:

"Tutto nello Stato, niente al di fuori dello Stato, nilla contro lo Stato." ("Everything in the State, nothing outside of the State, nothing against the State".)

Fascism permits no religion to control any aspect of the state while Islam permits no state control over any aspect of the religion. Neither permits compromises. Neither allows for the other.

Islamic Fascism is simply an impossibility - an oxymoron by definition!

If you wish to use a more accurate term, you may borrow mine: "Totalitarian Islam." At least it's honest! ("Islamic totalitarianism," however, would not be honest nor accurate!) Use of the "Islamic Fascist" "cop-out" term simply lets the guilty party - Islam - off the hook.
