Turkey at a crossroads

Reader comment on item: Crisis in Turkey

Submitted by LTC Yehuda Weinraub, ph.D. (Israel), Mar 3, 2010 at 04:00

Dear Dr. Pipes,

I share your concern. As someone who had been involved in the Reliant Mermaid (USA-Turkey-Israel)tri-national naval search and rescue exercises,I appreciated the role that Turkey had played as a democratic and moderating force in the region, and its importance as a guardian of NATO's south-eastern flank. I also saw, first-hand, the strong comitment that the Turkish officer corps had to a to a democratic, secular ideal.

Thank you for your highlighting this situation so well
