Reader comment on item: [Beslan Atrocity:] They're Terrorists - Not Activists

Submitted by Patrick Watkins (United States), Sep 10, 2004 at 21:42

The reluctance of the mass media to brand these groups and people as terrorists is inconceivable to me. It has been going on for so long that it is absurd. I remember when I was a kid sitting in my grandad's truck and he had the radio on a news channel and they were talking about Hamas or some other group refering to them as guerrillas. And last year on NPR they referred to one of the groups (don't recall which) that was having a funeral for one of their suicide bombers and referred to them as "activists". WHAT?? I thought -- activists?? Are they saving the enviornment or protesting the use of fur in clothes? No, they are killing women and children in pizza joints.
