More political correctness

Reader comment on item: [Beslan Atrocity:] They're Terrorists - Not Activists

Submitted by Toby Beck (Poland), Sep 9, 2004 at 04:50

I wonder how Daniel Pipes would categorise the activities of Irgun and the Stern Gang. The groups' acts included, inter alia: the blowing up of the King David Hotel, causing 91 deaths, the murder of Lord Moyne, a British minister, and the assasination of Count Bernadotte, a UN mediator.

To paraphrase Von Clausewitz, terrorism is a continuation of politics by other means. The various euphemisms used to describe terrorism is a reflection of the fact that these acts are viewed subjectively, depending on the position of the observer. The murder of innocent bystanders is henious. But trying to impose a politically correct view of events does nothing to improve understanding.
