A Terrorist By Any Other Name...

Reader comment on item: [Beslan Atrocity:] They're Terrorists - Not Activists

Submitted by Sheldon Taft (United States), Sep 8, 2004 at 17:47

Rich Taylor's 07:00 entreaty not to use the word "terrorist" to describe the Beslan child-murderers is stupifying. Does he truly believe that persons who pick out an isolated school for terrifying, blowing up and shooting innocent children in the back for the purpose of pressuring the school's government are not terrorists? Their acts are the very definition of terrorism. To suggest that "militant" is a more appropriate word is to reduce the English language to pablum. The goal of reporting is not neutrality; it's accuracy. The acts of the Beslan perpetrators match the definition of terrorism. To report the events of Beslan as anything other than terrorism would be inaccurate, false and misleading.
