dear Dr Pipes: Your respondent Yousuff Siddiqi is wrong like so many his Islamist brothers who have been tasked with defending Islam at all cost. Siddiqi justifies polygamy on the grounds that in some societies there may be more women than men. This argument holds only if you do not think deep enough. First, being involved in a polygamous relationship is demeaning no matter what the population ratio is. Second, will Siddiqi also allow polyandry of the population ratio turns in favor of men (more men than women).
