Honor Killing in NY

Reader comment on item: Bridges TV, a Wife's Beheading, and Honor Murder

A truly tragic story. My prayers go out to the transgressed soul of Aasiya Hassan and to her young children who are now without a mother (and apparently a father as well). The hard question that needs to be asked here is how a supposedly "moderate" Muslim figure like Muzzammil Hassan ended up committing an act (an apparent honor killing) that represents one of the most barbaric attributes found in Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures.

This is clearly not some marital quarrel over money, it would take a lot more to cause someone to not only murder his spouse, but brutally behead her as well. I think this unfortunate incident is a reminder that a serious debate is needed in the US (indeed all Western countries) about whether it is such a good idea to except large scale immigration from non-Western countries, especially ones known for having cultural values so far removed from our own.
