Palestinians not partners for peace

Reader comment on item: [The Road Map:] Learning from Oslo

Submitted by Yoseph (United States), Jun 10, 2003 at 14:50

Dear Daniel,

Your piece is titled 'Learning from Oslo". According to your assesment, what we have learnt from Oslo is to establish a zero tolerance towards Palestinian breaches of the road map conditions. This is true, and had this policy been in place in 1993, it might have succeeded. Israel would have been justified in giving peace a chance.

In my opinion however, it is now 10 years later, and the Palestinian people, from its' grassroots all the way up to Mr. Abbas have demonstrated extreme animosity toward Israel and her people. (Let us not forget that Mr. Abbas is a published holocaust denier.) Even if the Palestinians manage somehow to still their bloodlust for a few months, who is to say that is not just a 'hudna'? Who can guarantee that after getting a state they will not pursue once more their goals of pushing Israel into the sea. The Palestinian charter calls for just that.

In closing, the only lesson to be learned from Oslo is to not believe anything the Palestinians say until they have demonstrated their peaceful intentions for way longer than that which they are being asked.

Sincerely, Yoseph Rosenbaum
