Deliberate PlunderingReader comment on item: [Looting:] An Iraqi Tragedy Submitted by Ross Johnson (United States), Apr 23, 2003 at 14:58 One comment that the author failed to point out in this article was that for much of the looting of the National Museum of Iraq, it was done by people who knew what they were doing! That it was out and out theft that went on at the museum with help on the inside from museum staff. This point must be pounded into the "Talking- Heads" of the news media so that it gets out the the general public. Even if the US had sent troops straight to the museum and the library it is doubtful they could have stopped the rape of the national treasures. I believe most of the artifacts were gone long before the general Iraqi public ran through the museum.
