Profoundly disturbing analysis:Reader comment on item: [Looting:] An Iraqi Tragedy Submitted by Glenn Klotz (United States), Apr 22, 2003 at 12:05 If this society is as murderous as you propose even without Saddam then maybe Saddam was merely the logical projection of such violence and anarchy and if that's the case we have a very BIG problem on our hands at the moment. Freedom is not the freedom to run amok or is it? I've read various authors many of them your site recommended Mr. Pipes and they all point to a disturbing predilection in Arab culture towards a kind of tribal anarchy that manifests itself in pillage, rape and plunder. Considering the only examples these people have had for 35 yrs. I wasn't surprised to see such behavior. We should get OUT of Iraq as soon as possible and leave these people to their own devices. If they can't sort it out after Saddam then maybe Iraq as a nation was nothing more then a failed British colonial idea and never really a nation in the western sense at all? What we shouldn't do IMHO is stay their and try to mediate between all these factions that have no love for each other but really hate "outsiders" and INFIDELS like us. The Brits found that out in the 20's and I think we're going to have a similar experience over the next 1 yr. Right now Iraq could easily degenerate into 1 huge Somali or worse another Taliban / Warlord Afghanistan. As they say "Good intentions pave the highway to Hell."Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
