Barbarians self-immolate their treasures.

Reader comment on item: [Looting:] An Iraqi Tragedy

Submitted by Joan Archiba (United States), Apr 22, 2003 at 10:35

The comments of the academicians * Hamid Dabashi of Columbia University, Michael Sells of Haverford College, and Said Arjomand of the State University of New York (Stony Brook are just the typical 'blame America first' and 'hate Bush' rhetoric so ingrained in the feeble narrow world views of the majority of university professors.
They are an efete elite that are totally out of touch with the heart and soul of America.

No way are the military or political leaders who carefully crafted this war on Iraq's evil and violent regime are 'destroyers of civilization'. I find the mindset of these self-serving hate mongers despicable, and beneath contempt of good, courageous soldiers and our leaders who gave assent to taking out Saddam and his evil, cruel, inhumane regime.

Your comments about the violent underpinnings of Iraqi society are right on the money. The uprising of the Shia s and the emotional antagonism and hate for the soldiers who risk their lives to bring freedom to this people says much about the nation. I doubt that they will ever be able to support a democratic society. so hidebound are they to their exclusivist sectarian proclivities.......

Barbarians comes to mind.
