Leftist Intellectuals: Lazy, Unrealistic and Sloppily Moralistic

Reader comment on item: [Looting:] An Iraqi Tragedy

Submitted by catherine Johnso (United States), Apr 23, 2003 at 22:41

Western intellectuals are intellectually lazy, and they have a disdain for reality.

It takes energy and time to individually mull over and analyze the bizarre actions and words pouring out of Iraq last week. It also means doing research into Iraqi's past behavior and other nations' behavior in similar situations, as Mr. Pipes has done.

Most reporters, college professors, leftist activists do not undertake this burden.
I've read numerous reports on how big-time reporters in DC and NYC merely hang out in common bars and restaurants, get "the word" on how to interpret the news, read the NY Times, and spit out one shared interpretation in their speeches and articles.

Intellectuals' assumption of the superior morality of their crowd, and of their socialist, anti-US outlook makes them content to take the lazy road.
