Vinod Kumar's analysis of Muslim world is right on the dot. It is a fact that a great majority of Muslims do not understand the teachings of Qurran because they don't understand the language of Qurran which is Arabic. Largest number of Muslim population is non-Arab speaking with little or no Arabic knowledge. It is no different than a Hindu majority who does not know the ancient Sanskrit or a Jewish person who also does not know Yiddish or Aramaic.

Unfortunately, great majority of Muslims also live in third world countries under very suppressive and cruel regimes of their own. Any education that is taught free of charge to those who can't afford to attend a regular schools, is provided free through their local mosque's Madrasas that are run by volunteers and unemployed men who are ready made extremists in thier state of frustration for not getting any jobs or opportunities due to severe corruption in all levels of thier governemnt and private sectors.

Their self-taught Islam becomes a dangerous weapon in their hands. On top of it, a self-appointed ignorant Mullah of the mosque gives his sermons that are generally contrary to the teachings of Qurran. This adds fuel to fire, so to speak ,and this vicious circle of spreading of un-Islamic teachings continues. An example of Vindod's educated Muslim friend is so befitting to this type of Islamic etchings that it is more often that one finds a Muslims of highest academic achievements yet with very limited knowledge of Islam (I guess this is true among most of the relisions). Most of the Islamic teaching takes places in the Mosques through Mullahs who improvises their sermons as they go along for there are no authorities to pre-qualify his sermons or for that matter, to qualify the Mullahs themselves.

Islamic fundamentalism will continue to haunt us all unless a rigorous role is played by their governments under some form of cooperation, pressure, aid packages and forced closing of the Madrasas in favor of opening more academically qualified schools. We have a long way to go before the fundamental Islamic cause and effect could be tamed to make it compatible with the rest of the world's religions.
