Disengagement

The best solution to the problem of the cultural clash of the West with Islam is to disengage. We should get out of their countries and they should get out of ours. Then, if they want a theocracy they are entitled to it - this is actually a kind of democracy to allow other people to be self determining. Yes, we need their oil, but we can buy it, even if they make it expensive it is still cheaper than the enormous cost of war both the financial and humanitarian cost. They obviously want to sell it.

As for Saddam Hussain, well he may have been a monster, but he was their monster and they were the ones to deal with him or live with him. I would not wish any of my sons to die to establish democracy in Iraq. If they want it they can fight and die for it as Western Nations have had to do on the past. The only engagement of the West in the Middle East should be the protection and support of Israel. This is a civilised legitimate state, and the people there simply want to live in peace and prosperity.
