Muslims Vs. Islamists

Reader comment on item: Intimidating the West, from Rushdie to Benedict

Submitted by Bryan Jackson (Canada), Oct 4, 2006 at 16:03

There ARE Muslims in the world that are willing and able to live among us. I know a number of them. One particular one I know prays four times a day but despises guns, is a fanatic of American muscle cars, drinks from time to time, thinks Osama bin Laden is a dangerous criminal and likes Americans for their ability to work hard when they need to. He doesn't like Bush, but then he's far from the only one who thinks Dubya is an idiot.

Want another scary kicker? He was born in Tehran under Khomeini, his mother is West Bank Palestinian. Yet this Muslim family thinks terrorists are smearing God's name.

The challenge for Muslims is to have more like my friend here and less like Mohammed Atta. (FYI, Atta was the leader of the 9/11 attacks.) There is a difference between Muslims and Islamists. Muslims can and in many cases are productive members of our societies. Islamists do nothing but destroy and kill for some stupid thinking that they will get lots of virgins if he sacrifices himself.

Muslims should be encouraged to make their points. Islamists should be shot dead. Confusing one with another is an insult to the Muslims of the world who don't get mad every time somebody in the West says something potentially insulting to Muslims. Do any of you guys consider that many this is all politically motivated? Take the Danish Cartoon stuff. The cartoons came out in October, yet nothing happened until demonstrations exploded in Syria, Iran and Iraq in January and it spread from there. You think that's just putting off anger, or was it the governments of said nations timed it to fire up reactions?

We want to get somebody back for all of this? Why don't we just remove the little statue saying we can't kill foreign leaders and take Ahmoudinejad and Assad. Make the world probably a much safer place. While we're at it, disarm Pakistan's nukes. That one should be a top priority. One bullet and we have 50+ nukes in the hands of a Taliban-like regime.

We want to destroy Islamic Terror. But that will never happen until they are tough like we are, and we make certain Muslims who speak up against such idiocy aren't persecuted
