Mr RubbleReader comment on item: Intimidating the West, from Rushdie to Benedict Submitted by dominic lennon (United Kingdom), Mar 3, 2008 at 15:02 Firstly, learn to spell as part of your re-education regime. Secondly learn some authentic history instead of the potted garbage someone fed you down the mosque. Yes, Islam had a bright point in the 14th century, but it's been downhill all the way since then. Why? Because the West embraced a culture of freedom, inquisitiveness and learning that resulted in huge advances in science, medicine, law and constitutional affairs. Islamic socities turned in on themselves and really you can't blame the West for the pathetic state of say, Pakistan. India was occupied by Britain, but is secular, democratic and increasingly prosperous. Pakistan is an Islamic state, and a failed one at that where corruption, religious bigotry and oppression are rife. Instead of railing at the West, open your mind and learn something about what has made these socities so successful that Muslims across the world want to come and live there. Where is the Islamic equivalent of Oxford and Cambridge universities? It simply does not exist. And by the way, what is the country most Iranians want to emigrate to? America!
