A dire situation in the making
Reader comment on item: Winning the Propaganda War [versus Radical Islam]

Submitted by Seamus MacNemi (United States), Dec 30, 2005 at 02:41

I don't really know how to say this in an easy way but from the reports I'm getting, The Gaza situation has become a tinderbox just waiting for a match.

The failure of the UN and the Bush administration to restrain the militants in Gaza is quickly reaching the boiling point and the real casualty will be the Israeli willingness to make any further consessions in the name of peace and political stability in the region. So far there has been little effort made to thwart the firing of Kassam missles into Israel and a late report today informed me of a new alliance between the Mullahs in Iran and the Palestinians.

That, together with the presence of alQaeda in Gaza should be enough to give anybody pause. The Sharon policy is turning out to be disasterous and I seriously doubt the Sharon government will long survive. The view from here is that the Palestinians are taking the Bush administration for a jolly ride on a cart of empty promises that they have absolutely no intention of fulfilling. The erstwhile "retaliation" by the IDF is seen by many as merely a sop to calm the Sharon critics and that the guns are firing into empty desert to no real effect.

If this is so, and I believe that it is, then it will not be long before full blown hostilities again erupt in the region. Little or nothing has been done to qwell the flow of advanced weaponry into the region. The Palestianians now have supplies of advanced explosives like symtex and are aquiring advanced missile targeting technology from the Iranians. This situation cannot be allowed to continue.

If the potential of this situation frightens you ( and I believe it should) then perhaps somebody will take the proper steps to forestall its manifestation. Israel will not be another Czekoslovakia. It must be finally understood that the monster cannot be appeased. It must be rooted out and destroyed. We will not stand still for another holocaust. If our hand is forced, we will act in our own self defence and without restraint.

If it seems that I am laying down a gauntlet it is because I am expressing the thoughts of many others as well as my own. This is my war and it is personal. If the powers that be will not or cannot act then we will be forced to act in our own stead. I do not desire this war but if it is forced on me I will fight with any and all means available. I'm asking you to give me a real choice. If you will not do that then I will make my own choices
