Propaganda in the Indian 'Midday.com'

Reader comment on item: Winning the Propaganda War [versus Radical Islam]

Submitted by Sonali (United States), Jan 3, 2006 at 00:42

Dear Dr. Pipes,

A similar propaganda about the Australian riots in a Indian newspaper (midday.com), Muslims (even educated ones!) ALWAYS see themselves as victims and others as aggressors, even when FACTS say otherwise.

From LA Times :
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-australia13dec13,1,5199506.story?coll=la-headlines-world&ctrack=1&cset=true

"About 5,000 white men, many of them drunk, targeted people believed to be of Arab or Middle Eastern descent on Cronulla Beach on Sunday after rumors spread that Lebanese youths had assaulted two lifeguards. "

Now see what a columnist writes on the Indian, Midday.com :
http://ww1.mid-day.com/news/world/2005/december/125857.htm

"What started as a seemingly innocuous face-off between two innocent Lebanese youths and a group of white right-wing Australians on a suburban Sydney beachfront last Sunday has reached a flashpoint,"

Comparing them,

LA Times :

(1) 'Lebanese youths' (number unknown)
(2) '2 Aussie lifegaurds'
(3) (2) was 'assualted' by (1) = Lifegaurds were victims of Lebanese youths. Although for LA Times it is still a 'rumour'.

Midday columnist :

(1) '2 innocent Lebanese youths'
(2) 'group of white right wing Australians'
(3) 'seemingly innocuous face-off'

Note how there is no mention (rumour or otherwise) of an assault by the Lebanese = This is an example of a half-truth i.e. leaving out a 'little' but important detail which changes the entire picture. And the fact that they were just 2 Lifegaurds is completey replaced by 'a group of white right wingers'. = This is an example of an outright lie.

You can see how facts are twisted by the Midday author to make the Muslims involved in the fight look like the victims.

Now see who wrote this article in Midday....yes it is by a Muslim author, Khalid Ansari. But it could have been by any pseudo-secularist/ liberal-left of any religion. This is the devious mentality of this author and others like him.

Now this chapter, with its 'Ansari version' will be used by Bin Laden types to recruit more jihadis.

Also, if you are familiar with the burning alive of Hindus in Godhra, India and the riots later :

Please note how Ansari says 'RETALIATORY riots by Middle Easterners' against the rioting by the 'white right wing Australians'. Do you remember reading 'RETALIATORY riots by Gujurati Hindus' against the 'Godhra burning of innocent Hindus by the Muslims' ? When (pseudo-secular) columnists wrote about the riots, did they ever mention Godhra at all ? Except to tell us indirectly how they (Hindus) deserved what they got, because they were shouting some Hindu slogans...and even if this is true...does any slogan shouting deserve death ?!

Regards,
Sonali
