Reader comment on item: "24" and Hollywood's Discovery of Radical Islam

Submitted by Alan Davis (United States), Jan 11, 2005 at 17:09

I consider myself a student of history, i.e. I read. Every generation has had an enemy to deal with. If we just go back to the beginning of America, first it was native Americans, and then the French, then the British, then the Spanish, then the South, (of which I am a proud citizen), well - you get the picture. I think there has to be a threat in order to maintain control by those who think they are in control.

As for the Muslim faction of today, yes, I suppose they are a threat. The question is , "When do we draw the line in the sand?" G.W. has attempted to do that with his war on terrorism by logically going after the enemy on foreign ground thus sparing us here at home all - out confrontation and possible bloodshed.

From a farmer's perspective, I think that someone has left the barn door open by not dealing front on and directly with our Muslim population. Could that mean expulusion or forced emigration, maybe, I'm not sure. But I feel we are fooling ourselves to ignore at least the possibility of requiring all persons of the Muslim faith a ceremony or requirement or whatever a chance to declare their support of this country and its constitution. And, I may be judged way too harsh on this, but that's ok. The century is young. Who knows what may happen?
