Hollywood, liberalism and IslamophobiaReader comment on item: "24" and Hollywood's Discovery of Radical Islam Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Jan 7, 2005 at 06:46 Hollywood liberals are afraid of being labelled "Islamophobes". Allegations of "Islamophobia" are enough to change a movie's script. Neo-Nazis are an easier target than Muslims.Sorry, I have used the word "Muslim" and I could already be called an "Islamophobe" for that. The truth is that WE CANNOT WIN THE WAR AGAINST MILITANT ISLAM WITHOUT HOLLYWOOD. Hollywood is more powerful than Daniel Pipes or any other American or European commentator. Do you want the evidence of what I am saying? The movie Midnight Express (1978) has done more harm to Turkey that anything which was ever written by Western commentators. Alan Parker and Oliver Stone delivered a strong message about Turks lacking the concepts of "mercy and fair play" as actor Brad Davis puts it in the movie. One movie about Militant Islam would equal 10.000 articles by Daniel Pipes. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
