Reader comment on item: Identifying Moderate Muslims
in response to reader comment: Islamic virus

"There is no single unbiased, ratiionalistic and intellectual muslim in this world." Including myself I suppose Shashi? The world is a pretty big place. It has some one billion Muslims in it. But apparently we know for certain that not one among them is objective, rational or intellectual.

There's a bit of talk on this website about what it means to a moderate Muslim. Personally, I do not like to place adjectives like liberal, moderate or conservative in front of nouns. They tend to categorize people who are more complicated than this.

But if you absolutely must recognize a moderate Muslim, then consider this. A person who speaks out against injustice perpertrated by terrorists just as strongly as a they speak out against injustice perpetrated by Americans, a person who condems violent Palestinian suicide bombings as well as a Israeli policies which subjugate Palestinians, a person who hates what happened in 1947 not just because innocent Muslims died but also because innocent Hindus died, a person who loves the Vatican but abhors its role in Nazi Germany, a person who will villify the KKK as well as the Black Panthers, a person who does not attempt to justify cruelty from your allies by noting cruelty amongst your enemies, a Yankee fan who will call a strike on Derek Jeter when the ball crosses the plate. I think you get the point... a person who recognizes injustice where-ever it may be and shuns ties of race, ethnicity, homeland and even sports team affiliation for the sake of justice and fairness. Maybe this person is "a moderate" who knows? But certainly these types of people exist and some of them call themselves Muslims.
