Keeping our guard up

Reader comment on item: Identifying Moderate Muslims

Submitted by Juan Hovey (United States), Nov 23, 2004 at 19:37

Daniel Pipes: We learned after the fall of communism that there was no such thing as communism with a human face, and it is now clear that, had we let our guard down as the Left kept saying we should, we might not have won that struggle. Somehow we must find the will not to let our guard down now, either -- and some mechanism by which we can distinguish the moderate Muslim from the liar. I don't know what that mechanism might be, but in the meantime, out of caution I shall consider all Muslims liars until proven otherwise. That's harsh, I know, but probably necessary. Juan Hovey
