Moderate Muslims? Let's not kid ourselves.

Reader comment on item: Identifying Moderate Muslims

Submitted by Arthur McNight (United States), Nov 23, 2004 at 16:12

Dear Dr Pipes:

The idea that there are moderate muslims vying for peace and democracy and the "extremist" muslims waging a global jihad in my opinion is a misnomer. It is true that not every muslim is a terrorist and it is true that not every muslim takes active part in the killing of infidels, but it is equally true that almost all of the muslims in the world are tacitly supporting or condoning their more "extremist" brothers.

Examples of this are many and this is the problem the western mind refuses to face. Going out on a demonstration to scream "Islam is peace" is no longer doing it for some of us. The muslim society itself as it is right now is very sick, much like the german society was sick in the 1930s-and 40's. Healthy societies punish their criminals (Tim Mc Veigh), sick societies encourage and support them (Osama is the number one name given to male babies in the muslim world for 3 years running).

The fact of the matter is that the "moderates" are doing an excellent PR job to convince us that the problem is not Islam but rather the "few extremists' interpretation of it". History is the best teacher and history does not support this position at all.

Everywhere Islam has been it has brought with it war, chaos, slavery, murder, rape and subjugation of infidels. It's time for us to open our eyes and realize that after 1400 years of continious war and conquest it will not somehow re-emerge as a peaceloving moderate religion.

Sorry Dr Pipes, but the chances of that happening are about as slim as the chance that you can somehow teach wolves to eat vegetation.

Let's be realistic and face the ideology that IS rather then the ideology that we so desperatly want it to be.

Best Regards and keep up the good work.
Arthur.
