The American Myth

Reader comment on item: [Symposium:] Why Does the World Hate America?

Submitted by Shaun (United Kingdom), Mar 15, 2003 at 06:36

The rest of the world may well resent America's wealth considering that I believe that the US has repressed the development of the Third World for the last 50 years using its unrivalled influence in organizations such as the World Bank, IMF and WTO(formerly GATT) in the name of free trade.

Hari Iyer is misguided in his comments: It's capitalism which requires an undiminishing pool of working class for the minority to prosper.

How is it that in the world's richest most powerful nation, the richest there has ever been, 50 million people live below the poverty line -- that's 20% of the population!!

Full employment does not work and the corporate men in power know this.

The American dream is a myth.
