in response to reader comment: Americans are stupid

Dear Jennifer,

I am an Indian and what are the odds, I had been a customer service agent sometime ago with Capital One. The thing is despite what you think, agents here are not really getting paid that much. My salary when I was working as an agent, was just enough to cover the basic necessities and I was a student then so my needs were few. I don't see how that salary can support a fulltime employee let alone a highlife. It's only logical. What's the point of outsourcing if they have to pay us the same amount? They do it because it's cheaper hence they can cut down on expenditure. I agree that this is a sad status quo but that is how business works. Maximum output with minimum input of resources, cost cuttings(they can be very ruthless in this department), layoffs, profit maximisation, etc, all essence of a good business and that is what every firm does unfortunately. Nobody cares about humans anymore. A fat bank balance is all that is important to them. That's just how the world runs today.

Customer service aside, I really feel for you. As if getting a decent job isn't tough enough, having to deal with all those arrogant, self-centered people around you must be difficult. But where there is one sensible and thoughtful person there is bound to be another who would be touched by that. Your presence just goes to show that there are still some sensible and thoughtful people left in America no matter how hopeless it may appear to be.
