Reader comment on item: [Symposium:] Why Does the World Hate America?
in response to reader comment: General response

After reading the various comments here, I want to try and set the record straight. America is just like any other country, with its ups and downs and its pros and cons. The average American is NOT blatantly racist towards any country in particular. The average American IS educated by a college. The average American is NOT a lazy pig. The hateful comments (and they ARE hateful) against America are partly based in fact, but are mostly exaggerations or outright lies.

1. Yes, we took our land from Native Americans. However, this happened about a 150 years ago. There's no one alive who was there for it, so stop saying Americans are hypocrites. I guarantee you there your own country has done the same thing.

2.The reason why colleges are so expensive is because of both the economy and a large influx of foreign students coming to America to receive a good education. That is the case at least in California. And you are in no way guaranteed a diploma.

3. Americans are NOT selfish. What is wrong with giving the most foreign aid in the world, but also giving money to local charities?

4. The U.S. is at its lowest CO2 emissions level in 20 years. I have no idea how that compares with the rest of the world, but that doesn't really matter in terms of the U.S. trying to better itself, not compete with other countries.

5. The U.S. occupies NO countries. If you paid attention at ALL to world news you would realize that President Obama has ordered troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. And having troops all around the globe means absolutely nothing, except that we are smart enough to be ready for a situation no matter where it happens.

6.Oh, so you've been in America for a grand total of one month, and you personally know 3 Americans? I'm sorry, you must be an expert.
