For all of those who are talking about hating the US...

Reader comment on item: [Symposium:] Why Does the World Hate America?

Your reasons for your dislike/hate are overly generalized. Many of the stupid things the US government does has nothing to do with what the citizens of the country want. I am sick of the US being in the middle east too, but my requests to the Congress fall on deaf hears. They send me back some nonsense explanation why they support such and such policy and vote against me anyway. You must also realize that you can't hate a country because its quality of life is lower than expected, that is absurd. Many of the American citizens put up with that too. You can't generalize and say that all Americans are warmongers because lots of us aren't. In actuality, about 70% of us want to take our military out of the Middle East. Myself and others want the US to quit giving aid to Israel, as well as the Palestinians. We should (in my opinion) stay neutral and not support either side.

For those of you who dislike the consumerist attitude, you don't have to like it. I don't like it and I am an American, so I don't participate. I buy some things that I want, but I _surely_ do not have money to be "driving around in fancy cars" or anything else like that.

Some of us may be assholes and/or ignorant, but not all of us. You forget that many of us are in the low or middle class and don't live as extravagantly as you think. Don't trust everything you hear on your media stations, just as Americans shouldn't trust everything they hear on theirs.
