Reader comment on item: The Scandal of U.S.-Saudi Relations
in response to reader comment: Henk, sorry no local law

Sorry, but the term" Human Rights" in Saudi Arabia is an oxymoron. People's rights are routinely violated there and diplomats are helpless because they don't want to offend the people who control the spigot to the oil fields. That US companies took advantage of this is not surprising. It sure stops quitting if you can't get out of the country without a passport, and a sure-fire way to make sure that employment contracts are fulfilled. Then again, as long as oil flows to our shores, the American public could care less. Democrats don't want to know about problems if a guaranteed vote or a slam against George Bush isn't in the cards. And the Republicans care about is if big business is happy, then they are ecstatic. Is it oil dhimmis, or is it dummies? I forget.

Too bad high gas prices are caused by the American public driving too much, and not by congress sitting on their backsides doing nothing about the energy crisis ,but raking in big contributions from environmentalists, political action groups, and big business. Where is Harry Truman when you need him? He ran against a do-nothing congress and won.
