And We Put a Man on the Moon?

Reader comment on item: The Scandal of U.S.-Saudi Relations

Submitted by Ruth Lowry (United States), Aug 1, 2003 at 20:14

The U.S. put a man on the moon. It leads the world in technological development. So for what does it need to be so damned dependent on OIL that is has to cow-tow to the Sheiks of Araby? Development of alternative energy is WAY overdue! I do sense greed plays a BIG part in delaying this. Once the oil barons figure out how to make their millions from alternative energy instead of oil, we can tell the two-faced Saudis where to shove their precious liquid ... if indeed by that time, there is any left to "shove."

Just as Israel made the mistake of becoming so over-dependent on the U.S., so too the U.S. has made the mistake of becoming so dependent on Saudi oil. We should have been able to use the energy of the sun, water, and air, LONG AGO. Perhaps Israel will show us how to do this. They did, after all, turn sand into fertile soil.
