Reader comment on item: The Scandal of U.S.-Saudi Relations

Saudi Arabia along with other Islamic states in the Persian Gulf, contrary to popular belief, is an ultra-modern nation with a world-class infrastructure all built thanks to America and Europe who have bought precious oil. And no, the Arabian Gulf will not suffer following the end of oil since most of their economies are not as dependent on oil as many might think.

Take the United Arab Emirates for example...what have they done with their oil money? hmmm let's see...they've built the only seven star hotel (Burj Al Arab), building the 2 tallest towers in the world (Burj Dubai, Al Burj), building the world's only 5-star underwater luxury hotel/resort (Hydropolis), created the world's largest man made islands (The Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Jebel Ali, The Palm Deira)- ironically, Bill Clinton just bought a luxury villa on The Palm, creating the world's largest waterfront development, building the world's largest, most expensive, and most advanced tourist development (Dubailand), has the largest percentage of 5-star entertainment venues in the world, building the 2 largest malls in the world (Mall of Arabia, The Dubai Mall). Heard about the major development called Kingdom Centre in Saudi Arabia? check it out. America's dependancy on oil has brought wide-spread wealth in the Middle East, and thanks to America, the Arabian Gulf is currently considered one of the most modern, dynamic, and wealthiest regions in the world; no where else in the world will you see as many bmws, lamborghinis, ferraris, aston martins, jaguars, mercedes as you would in the Middle East. The U.S gave into all that and is giving into Saudi policy so they've got no-one to blame but themselves. Who is the U.S to say how the world should operate? Saudi Arabia is a nation on its own and has the power to do whatever when it comes to domestic policy. Women in Islam have equal rights as men and it is not true that theyre not allowed in public and other like that. The U.S is ignorant and exposes false images regarding the Middle East.
