Your comments assume that Israel does not face the same threat today as she did in 1967. However,

- Several of the neighbours who were threatening Israel at the time of the 1967 pre-emptive strike are still threatening her today. In particular Syria and Iran, through their tools Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and others, have attacked her physically and continued to pledge themselves to her destruction.

- Israel has made many efforts to comply with such agreements as the Oslo accords and has been prepared to cede territories to them as required by the UN. The Palestinians have made no real attempt to disarm militants and prepare their people for peace as required, for examply by the road map.

- Why should Israel commit to a United Nations which comprises a substantial minority of countries which are dictatorships, and which has shown itself consistently biased against Israel?

The withdrawal by Israel from Gaza is a brave step, forcing the Palestinians to get their own house in order and show the world whether they really want to live in peace with their Jewish neighbour, or whether their true aspiration is for a Palestine which comprises the whole of what is now Israel.
