Sharon's present against Sharon's past?

Reader comment on item: [Israel's Gaza Withdrawal:] A Democracy Killing Itself

Submitted by Maureen Cote (United States), Aug 16, 2005 at 10:19

Dear Daniel,
Any speculation as to why Sharon would initiate such a self-contradictory and clearly suicidal move as to create a Palestinian weapons platform pointed at Israel?

All this talk, bleated mostly by our State Dept sheep, about "creating a Palestinian state and eveything will be solved" is nonsense. It is the beginning of yet more violence. Anyone who has lived in the Mideast knows that Muslims regard Israel as a "temporary aberration" that the Muslims will eventually erase -- as centuries ago they eventually erased the Crusader presence by using escalating levels of violence.

So what is Sharon thinking by weakening his defensive borders?
