Only one thing makes sense. Sharon knows what he is doing.

Reader comment on item: [Israel's Gaza Withdrawal:] A Democracy Killing Itself

Submitted by Victor G. Lipshutz (United States), Aug 15, 2005 at 23:15

Assuming the completion of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza will be followed by renewed terrorism, as the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity, what then?

Israel will have shown, once again, in the eyes of the world, their willingness to go to the utter limit to demonstrate their desire for peace, by forcefully and agonizingly extracting Israelis from Gaza.

On the other hand, the Palestinians will show, once again, their desire for driving Israeli out of the West Bank and Jerusalem by the use of every terrorist trick in the books, including suicide bombings, rockets, missiles and mortar attacks.

Sharon will be perfectly justified to defend Israel against such violence, and, with no Israeli settler presence in Gaza, will be then free to wage a violent and bloody war against the Gaza insurgents, this time not resting till they wipe out all signs of terrorists and activists.
